Build on the Skills API

Quickstart

The API is one endpoint with an action query parameter. Health check needs no key:

Everything else authenticates with an API key in the X-Api-Key header. Members generate their own read key in one click — log in, open API keys in the library toolbar, and create one (up to two). Need a write key (create/update/maintain)? Ask the admin (support@ai-host4me.nl).

Develop against staging first: https://pre.ai-host4me.nl runs the same code with its own database and its own API keys (production keys do not work there).

Responses are JSON ({"ok":true,...} or {"ok":false,"error":"code"}), except zip (binary). Rate limits: 240 requests/min per IP; respect the Retry-After header on HTTP 429. Full contracts in the interactive reference.

Use the library inside Claude — MCP server

Prefer to search and download skills without leaving Claude? Run the AI-Host4me MCP server: it exposes the library as MCP tools (search_library, get_item, download_item, list_categories) so Claude Code can pull skills straight into your project.

Good to know

Auth header	X-Api-Key (not Authorization — the hosting proxy does not forward it)
Key format	aih_ + 40 hex characters; shown once at creation, stored only as a hash
Scopes	read = list/get/zip/upstream_check/sync_status · write = everything
Versioning	Every content change creates a new version; old versions stay retrievable (get&ver=N)
Stability	Unknown JSON fields may be added over time — ignore what you don't know; never hardcode categories
